Color - Kasumi-ishi 霞石 (Miststone) A quiet white with a hint of softness, like the fog-bound stones of a tranquil mountain morning. When naming this piece, what came to mind was a misty dawn in the valleys of Tokushima, and the tender, clouded surface of a pale stone held in hand. Kasumi-ishi is not simply “white.” It carries the stillness of morning, the spaciousness of pause, and the quiet breath of something beautifully unseen. The color names go beyond the colors themselves—they are inspired by the scenery, feelings, and nature of Tokushima that give life to each vessel. Ceramic artist Emi Nakagawa studied ceramic production in Kyoto and uses the Kiyomizu-yaki tradition with clay from Shigaraki, Shiga. About the Artist Emi Nakagawa hails from Miyoshi Village in Tokushima and has been creating ceramics by hand since 2020 after studying Kiyomizu-Yaki production in Kyoto. Primarily using electric powered kilns, she is still exploring her artistic styles with manipulation of clays, glazes, and firing techniques.
