When I first bought this 1970s Tieguanyin (Iron Buddha) Oolong tea in 2003, teas of this age were rarely appreciated. So it was set aside, quietly resting in storage, and eventually forgotten. More than two decades passed. By chance, I rediscovered a box of old oolong in the warehouse. Opening it revealed a hidden treasure that had been patiently waiting all these years to be found again. This is an exceptional 1970s Nanyan Tieguanyin Oolong from Fujian. It was likely exported through Hong Kong to Vancouver, where it has been preserved ever since. The leaves are quite loose, showing a deep brown color. Though some natural breakage and fine particles has occurred, brewing them together enhances its traditional character. Even after more than 50 years of aging, it retains a gentle charcoal roast, layered with delicate orchid notes, hints of pinewood, and ripened fruit. The liquor is vibrant yet mellow, offering a clean sweetness with a long, lingering huigan. The mouthfeel is deep, resonant, and full-bodied, revealing layers of wood and subtle medicinal nuances developed through decades of careful aging. This is an excellent vintage tea for those who appreciate traditional styles.
