Tea: Enshi Yulu (恩施玉露)Producer: Jason / Master Xiao / EnluLocation: Bajiao, Enshi, HubeiProduction Date: April 2025Flavor Notes: Peanut, Soy Milk, Saltine Cracker. Like the Sugar Buds, Brown River Cake, and Flower Crackers that came before it, this is the newest project that has involved community members in making tea. One-time volunteer Jason has graduated to a partnered producer. Through working with local tea factories and the university here in Enshi, and a lot of self-study, he has been able to gain the practical skills needed to make handmade Enshi Yulu. Master Xiao provided us with freshly kill greened leaves, which Jason then shaped on a heated counter, and finally baked in Enlu's oven. At every step it was sharing information and resources within the community that made this project possible. We would like to share the fruit of this project here to as many people as possible. What came off the counter and into our office is a remarkably tasty and unique Yulu. For a post Qingming Yulu, it is remarkable straight and thin in shape, yellower in color, and infinitely smoother in taste. There is a nutty sweetness and creamy edge that a machine-made late season Yulu rarely achieves. Please support this project and further endeavors like this purchasing this product if you want to see more efforts like this going forward. Below you will find a video link that highlights the basic experience Jason had learning Enshi Yulu. We want empower as many tea people as possible in China and abroad. May this inspire you to think of further ways to get involved with tea beyond consumption.
