Hiroki Matsumoto, the young farmer at Kaneroku Matsumoto Tea Garden is always challenging himself to create unique and unusual teas. This hojicha is indeed a distinct and standout hojicha, roasted from cedar wood from the famous Yakushima Island (Kagoshima Prefecture). The smokey flavor and scent will transport you into the earthiness of the cedar forests of Yakushima. While quite surprising and expressive in comparison to typical hojichas, this tea is not overpowering. A perfect hojicha to enjoy in the winter time.
