Xiaguan Te Ji Tuo Cha (特級沱茶) stands as one of the most iconic and accessible raw pu-er offerings in the world. Easily recognizable by its simple, classic wrapper, it is a fantastic tea to have in your collection for daily drinking, and remains extremely affordable for those looking to stock up on several tuos to age. The name "Te Ji" translates to "Special Grade" or "Premium Grade," signifying that it uses a higher proportion of bud-rich, tender leaf material compared to many of Xiaguan's other blends. This is a 100-gram raw pu-erh tuo, a format perfected by Xiaguan for its convenience and ideal aging properties. Type: Raw Pu Er (Sheng Cha). Yunnan Da Ye Zhong (Large Leaf Varietal), sun-dried. The "Special Grade" Character: Buds for Aroma and Acuity The defining feature of the Te Ji Tuo is its leaf grade. Among Xiaguan's iconic recipes, Te Ji relies on the highest grade of material, rich in buds (hao). This results in a different aging trajectory and drinking profile. These teas have been dry aged in Richmond, British Columbia, since 2015. Which one should you get? Our suggestion: Try them all! Their price is quite affordable. About Xiaguan Tuo Cha Founded in 1902, Xiaguan is a company with a rich history, including caravans from Yunnan to Tibet and a leading part in the development of 'cooked' Pu Er in the 1970s.
