Overview
Best pick • solid dark choice from Unknown origin
Pairing: mushrooms, braised meats, or dark chocolate

While black tea processing typically brings out the sweeter nature of a tea, with notes of caramel, cocoa or fruit, this Laomane material is having none of it. This shouldn’t be a surprise considering the region’s reputation for producing some of the most bitter sheng puer in Yunnan. However, we didn’t expect that a black tea could still be this bitter. Even with an unusual profile that yields more earthy and spicey notes, this tea is strangely addictive. It’s certainly not for everyone, so if you are averse to bitterness, you’re better off seeking out one of our other more traditional dianhongs. But if you enjoy a little pain to remind yourself you’re alive, then this is the tea for you. This tea also has serious power. Not only does the taste linger, but the energy persists too, making it a great tea for when motivation is lacking. Unfortunately, we could only secure a few kg from this spring – less than would normally be worthwhile to add, but we really wanted to share this experience. But don’t be surprised if it’s gone next time you swing around. $0.29-0.40/gram
