Competition Muzha Tieguanyin From the same garden of our perennial favorite Dragon's Eye Charcoal Muzha Tieguanyin, this tea was entered into the 2024 Muzha Tieguanyin Tea Competition. While it didn't win first place, it is a great example of the classic taste of Muzha Tieguanyin that has 'fallen out of favor' for the judges of the Muzha competition. This means we get to try some at a more affordable price compared to other competition teas, which is OK with us! Produced agrochemical free on a small garden just outside of downtown Taipei, this Tieguanyin is made from the Jinxuan cultivar and was thought to be the best production run of the 2024 spring season by our friends. Before being entered into the competition, the stems and yellow leaves where meticulously removed giving this brew a smoothness worthy of the judges. This year the flavor is a fascinating! Over the usual character of the Muzha Tieguanyin style of production, the typical fruit flavor of a higher oxidized Jinxuan is roasted to bring out a flavor note that seems to us to taste a little like 'grilled blueberries'. It seems like a winner to us! *The 300g option comes in a sealed competition box containing a 'can' sealed cylinder with a single 300g vacuum sealed bag of tea. If we sell out out of the boxes but you are still interested in getting one, let us know and we might be able to to help you get your hands on one! Elevation: 300-500m Status: Certified Organic Cultivar: Jinxuan, Milk Oolong Season: Spring 2024 Method: Machine picked, processed on site, very small batch Oxidation: 70%, Mid-Heavy Electric Roast Region: Muzha, New Taipei City Recommend Brewing Style: 3-5g per 100ml, ~100C water, 30, 40, 50 seconds then add 10-30 seconds to steeps to taste. Lasts 5-6 steeps. Western Style Brewing: 5g per 150ml, 100c water, 1-2 minute steeps ** A note about the label 'Tieguanyin'. In Taiwan, that name can denote cultivar and/or processing style. In this case it is processing style! Brewing Difficulty - Easy : Works well with all methods, light forst steeps bring out more fruit flavors (More Details Here)
