This delicious and richly flavorful powdered tamaryokucha has little to no bitterness and astringency. The texture is smooth and the flavor is full of creaminess and umami. Rich, fragrant, and velvety, even on just on its own! Tamaryokucha are green tea leaves that, like the tencha leaves for matcha, are shaded in cultivation, steamed, then rolled like sencha but skip the last step leaving them curled. These leaves are not usually powdered, but with the matcha latte boom, Ikedoki Tea experimented with grinding the leaves into a matcha-like fine powder. In addition to the fine grind, because they used the highest grade of leaves, the flavor profile is not bitter, and contains creaminess and umami like fine matcha. This is a new innovation in the tea industry and we hesitated ourselves to call this matcha. But it isn’t a low grade imitation of true matcha the way so many powdered green teas attempt to be. So we believe this new product deserves the qualified name, Tamaryoku Matcha. For a premium matcha latte you can try adding some creamy milk or a milk alternative to this matcha. However we recommend not avoiding too much as the matcha is already creamy on its own and too much milk will dilute the flavor of the matcha.
