A unique find for 2023, this charcoal roasted tea exhibits notes of tropical fruit and lychee, with florals emerging in the back of the throat after drinking. A bold texture and noticeably creamy cup scent add another layer to this tea. As the session goes on, there’s a light almond note and sweetness. While this tea is made from Songzhong varietal material, this Dancong is known as “Cha Hu” (茶虎) due to the comparatively fast, aggressive sprouting of the bushes it was made from. This phenomenon can unexpectedly occur when bushes simply don’t sprout during the winter picking season. The pent-up energy gives them a head start in the spring, causing the bushes to sprout earlier and faster, sometimes just after spring festival. This off-timed picking results in tea that has the high fragrance of Xuepian/winter season, along with the sweet and gentler qualities of spring Dancong.
