The top of the top for this year’s Dancong, we tried our hardest to ignore the name (“golden snub-nosed monkey”, a species local to Yunnan) and evaluate it without bias. The unbiased result is that this tea is an absolute treat in every regard, with no trace of monkey fragrance to be found. Dominantly fruity with a touch of floral notes, this tea is sweet right off the bat. Notes of peach can be picked up, with a cooling sensation following in the back of the throat. This sweetness persists in the form of a long lasting huigan. Texture-wise this tea is as thick as they come. Made from high-altitude old bushes that have undergone traditional charcoal roasting, this tea has all the trademarks of a high end Dancong. Another varietal with limited production and very little written about it, this tea continues this year’s trend of uncommon varietals in the best possible way. Rare varietals aren’t always as readily available from year to year, which is why we consider this a must try for seasoned Dancong drinkers. Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin. $1.26-1.37/gram Varietal: Jinsihou/金丝猴/Snub Nosed Monkey Region: Wudong Shan, Guangdong Altitude: >1000m
