Ceylon Tea Court Lodge Estate FBOP is, of course, no exception. What Does “FBOP” Stand For? This term means “Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe”. It essentially sits ‘in-between’ FOP (“Flowery Orange Pekoe”) and BOP (“Broken Orange Pekoe”). How does this work? A Tea graded as an FBOP has had its leaves broken, similar to a BOP Tea, but not quite as much. Its similarity to FOP lies in the leaves used in its making. Like an FOP, this Tea uses the top bud and first two leaves of each new shoot. It contains young, tender leaves with a balanced amount of ‘tip’ or ‘bud’. Ultimately, this means that it shares characteristics of both an FOP and a BOP. In other words, it’s the best of both worlds! The Court Lodge Tea Estate This estate finds itself in the highest district of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) called Nuwara Eliya. This region produces what many connoisseurs characterise as ‘The Champagne of Teas’ from Ceylon, a nickname commonly associated with Darjeeling Teas. Court Lodge borders Sri Lanka’s highest mountain “Pidurutalagala” and is near the famous Bomburu Waterfalls. The garden has in recent years produced top grade Teas and achieved excellent prices at the Colombo Auctions. Being on the western side of Nuwara Eliya, the estate benefits from the early years’ Monsoonal weather. This results in outstanding crops around the month of February. This is in contrast to the eastern side of Nuwara Eliya, where the monsoon effect arrives in the Autumn. Why Choose Ceylon Court Lodge Estate Tea FBOP Ceylon Teas grow exclusively on the lush, green, fertile island of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. It lies in the Bay of Bengal, just below the southeastern tip of India. After becoming independent from Britain in the 1940s, the country changed its name from Ceylon to Sri Lanka. Ceylon Tea, however, kept its name due to commercial recognition. Today, Ceylon Tea plantations cover an estimated 4% of Sri Lanka’s landmass. The primary Tea-growing regions are Kandy, Dimbula, Uva and, of course, Nuwara Eliya. Teas that grow in Nuwara Eliya, in particular, often have delicate, floral fragrances and light, brick flavours. Origin: The Court Lodge Tea Estate, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). Altitude: 6,000-8,500 feet. Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water. Infuse for 3 to 5 minutes. How to Serve: Milk, sugar, honey or lemon – the choice is yours. Alternatively, serve black. Tasting Notes: This is a hearty cuppa’ through and through. It boasts traditional Ceylonese tasting notes from start to finish. Colour in Cup: Coppery liquor, dark in tone.
