Overview
Tea: Yanhua Hong(烟花红)Type: Red TeaHarvest: April 2025Region: Jiangsu Province, Yangzhou County, Yizhen Township.Producer: Master Yin WeiTasting Notes: Stone Fruit, Nectarine, Rose, Licorice We are very excited to offer this tea for many reasons. First and foremost, it is the Magnus Opus of Derek’s long-time tea master in Yangzhou, Master Yinwei. Derek apprenticed under Master Yinwei back in 2016, and has learned a great deal of Chinese tea culture from this chaotic, generous, and innovative man. After his wife passed in 2020, Master Yinwei began developing a new kind of tea in a city renown only for its green tea, Lu Yang Chun. This is the beginning of Yan Hua Hong, or as we translated it, Firework Red. This tea is a full bouquet of flowers and fruit with long lasting sweetness and fragrance and a good deal of Chaqi. We love it in comparison with a lot of the other red teas we offer on the site, and are both proud and excited to offer it as a regular offering on our website. This tea is made from Hangzhou’s Qunti Zhong cultivar, the heirloom cultivar for the West Lake’s Dragonwell Green Tea. Our master has had them cloned and grown just West of town here in Yangzhou Jiangsu, and has been experimenting for many years on how to endlessly improve the fragrance, mouthfeel, and huigan.
