Overview
Nutty, bold and smokey yet subtle with a light caramel finish. Roasted Hojicha tea masterfully blended with safflower petals finished with autumnal chestnut. Another creative marvel from Japan. Using a by-product, which is almost entirely made of the leafless stalks that come off with the leaves from our exquisite rare sencha, harvested in the Japanese region of Shizuoka at over 3000 meters above sea level. In the 1920’s, an entrepreneurial merchant started roasting twigs and selling them in Kyoto, making a profit from something that tea makers until then had considered a waste. Similar to the fresh roasted coffee, Hojicha chestnut tea is often set out in many Japanese food stores to lure in shoppers with its delicious roasted aroma. Since it uses roasted green tea, it has less caffeine so can be enjoyed at any time of the day. One can almost describe this as a hug in a cup with its cake and caramel like alluring aromas.
