Made from the evergreen leaves of a plant in the Ilex or holly family, this beverage was orginally drunk in Paraguay, Southern Brazil and Argentina. Its flavour is not unlike a strong green tea and It has a slightly smoky, tangy taste with a hint of fruit. It naturally contains caffeine - the stimulating effect of which is stronger when the tea is infused for a short period and weaker after a long infusion.
