Our first oolong from the exceptional Jun Chiyabari farm high in the mountains of eastern Nepal, this partially oxidized tea shows careful handling. The multicolor mix of small leaves and buds becomes a rich blend of leathery browns and bright greens after infusing, revealing a prominent floral aroma. The bright, light caramel flavor—reminiscent of chocolate-dipped candied orange peel—is a surprise, considering the extent of oxidation, but still plays beautifully on the palate. It’s full-bodied but sweet, without the roasty profile you might expect from a more traditional Chinese or Taiwanese dark oolong. Try re-steeping the leaves several times to enhance the experience.
