A single cultivar sencha from the Kurihara brothers, this Okuhikari is known for its vibrant green color. Okuhikari is a cross between the Yabukita cultivar that makes up 75% of the tea grown in Japan, and a Chinese cultivar, Shizu Cy225, and officially registered in 1987. The plant grows slower than Yabukita requiring more care to avoid damage from weather and insects, but produces a better crop yield.
