Phoenix Dancong is a special style of oolong tea produced in the Fenghuang “Phoenix” Mountain range of Chaozhou, a coastal region of Guangdong, China celebrated for its mineral-rich soils, foggy climate, and rocky landscapes. The region is home to diverse oolong tea cultivars developed through the centuries and generations of selective tea cultivation. Many Dancong oolongs are named after their "xiang" or “aroma” type. The Dancong oolong tea trees share similar aromas with various fruits and flowers like tuberose, orchids, ginger flowers, citrus blossoms, honey, almonds, and other tantalizing tropical flowers. Lan Hua Xiang, “Orchid Aroma,” is a highly aromatic cultivar of Dancong oolong that has an amazing flowery aroma of fresh blooming orchids. The specific compounds that produce the orchid aroma in this tea are not yet fully identified. However, it is believed that a combination of floral-scented compounds such as benzyl acetate, linalool, and geraniol contribute to the orchid fragrance. These aromatic compounds and many others naturally occur in Dancong oolong tea plants at different levels and can be found in different fruits and flowers. The ‌Lan Hua Xiang‌ (兰花香) is a rare variety of Phoenix Dancong oolong, originating from the Fenghuang Mountains in Chaozhou, Guangdong. Its name reflects its distinctive ‌orchid-like floral aroma‌, a hallmark of elite Phoenix Dancong teas. Lan Hua Xiang was derived from the ‌Phoenix Narcissus‌ (Fenghuang Shuixian) group of Camellia sinensis and is a traditional cultivar that has been growing in southern China for centuries. "Lan Hua Xiang" (Orchid Fragrance Dancong) was standardized by farmers in the late 20th century to highlight its unique aromatic profile dominated by ‌fresh gardenia, jasmine, and sweet orchid notes‌, with a lingering honey-like finish. This batch is smooth, mellow, and exceptionally fragrant, with a natural sweetness and refreshing aftertaste. Lan Hua Xiang is grown in limited quantities, primarily at higher altitudes (800–1000 meters), which contributes to its premium status in the Dancong oolong tea group.
