Snacky, toasty, impossibly easy to drink In Japan, genmaicha is considered an everyday, affordable tea — and most are made that way, with affordable leaves and matcha used to smooth things over. This one isn’t like those. The base is mountain-grown tea from over 800 metres elevation in Honyama, lightly steamed to preserve the character of the leaf. Light steaming keeps the tea’s natural flavour intact rather than breaking it down, so what you taste is the mountain terroir itself — clean, defined, and present — alongside the roasted rice. The matcha is used sparingly, not to mask, but to refine the finish. The whole blend is carefully crafted by the tea masters at Hagiri, and it shows. The result is a genmaicha with a snacky, almost addictive quality — light enough to drink cup after cup, but layered enough that you actually taste something every time. We originally started carrying this as a complement to our Genmaicha from Ikumi , which has limited production and can’t always keep up with demand. But customer response to this tea was so strong — it quickly became a permanent part of our lineup on its own merit.
