This is the best micro-lot of shaiqing mao cha from Gong Nong Village that we’ve ever tasted. The picking standard and overall production quality of the 2025 first flush was so well executed that we decided not to press this tea into Pu’er teacakes. Instead, we offer it as a great example of how energetic, aromatic and tasty Yunnan Sun-dried green tea can be. We focused a lot on the picking standard, withering and roasting to render a more delicate and vividly aromatic shaiqing this year. Gong Nong Village is located in Lincang, Yunnan, a mountainous and remote region within the geographical birthplace of tea farming where the ancients collected tea seeds from wild trees and planted them in their gardens thousands of years ago. The teas of Gong Nong are especially fruity and floral with notes of honey, orchid and magnolia. Usually we reserve all shaiqing mao cha for our organic Pu’er tea production, but this batch stood out on the tasting table as spectacularly fragrant, so we are offering it as an exclusive loose leaf lot, never to be fermented or pressed into Pu’er teacakes. This special sun-dried green tea can be enjoyed gong fu style, similarly to Sheng Pu’er, or infused as a delicate green tea without rinsing. It is very versatile. You can drink it as a fresh green tea and reserve some for aging to track its development and flavor transformation.
