This is truly one of the most unique Yunnan white teas we’ve come across in a while. While it has a pleasant floral character in common with other whites, this tea also offers a noticeably creamy texture. We often highlight this quality with puer, dancong and other types of tea, it’s a bit more unusual when it stands out in a white tea. Texture aside, this tea’s fragrance is just as alluring, with a unique scent that is difficult to put our finger on. This is most apparent with the loose version of this tea, while the pressed cakes offer a smooth, steamed-milk note. Pressing tea is much more convenient for storage and shipping, however, one of our fears with pressing white teas is that some of the high notes and delicate fragrance will be lost. For that reason, this tea is a bit of an experiment, as we’re making a portion available loose (50g tins) and pressed (100g cakes). We’ll be keeping tabs on both, but invite you to draw your own comparisons as well. For further comparison between the different grades of the same tea, we recommend trying out Pearly Whites Baimudan grade white tea. $0.15/gram Region: Simao Prefecture, Yunnan
