This non-smoked Lapsang Souchong black tea offers a delicate aroma with fruity and sweet notes, reminiscent of longan fruit, or cocoa. Its liquor has a deep amber color. The taste is rich with hints of dark chocolate, caramel, or ripe fruit, balanced by a gentle astringency. Medium-bodied and velvety, it delivers a lingering, clean finish. Unlike the smoked version, which has a bold, smoky, and sometimes tar-like flavor, non-smoked Lapsang Souchong showcases the natural terroir of the Wuyi Mountains. Its complex yet refined profile makes it ideal for gongfu-style brewing in China, where multiple infusions reveal evolving flavors. Lapsang Souchong, the world’s first black tea, originates from Xin Cun town in the Tong Mu Guan area of the Wuyi region, Fujian province. In China, non-smoked Lapsang Souchong, known as Zhengshan Xiaozhong, is favored over the smoked variety, which was developed for export to Western markets, particularly Europe, where smoky flavors were prized.
