This is a blend that plays two textures against each other: toasted Japanese genmaicha rice against sweet, juicy pieces of strawberry, stirred into a base of Chinese green tea. The rice gives it a warm, roasted backbone, nutty and almost buttery, while the strawberry runs bright and fruity through the middle, enough to soften the light bitterness green tea usually carries. In the cup it settles to a pale champagne yellow, and the fruit doesn't so much dominate as sit alongside the toasted grain, so you get nutty and sweet notes in close succession rather than one flavour overpowering the other.
The blend draws on tea from both China and Japan: Chinese green tea and Japanese green tea form the base, with peeled rice, strawberry pieces and flavouring added on top. Genmaicha itself is an old pairing of green tea and roasted rice, and green tea more broadly has long been associated with antioxidants, though that's a background note rather than the point of drinking it.
Tea & Coffee packs this one fresh to order rather than pulling from stock, using a card-and-foil pack they say holds flavour better than plain paper. To brew it, use water around 75-80 degrees and let it steep for roughly a minute and a half, closer to two minutes if you want more strength. It's best drunk plain, without milk, so the rice and strawberry notes stay clear. Once opened, keep it in an airtight container away from sunlight and strong smells, since loose tea picks up odours quickly.
